Lake Seminole Bass Southern Open

by Ott Defoe

I probably have more riding on this tournament than any others this year. There is Classic slots, Elite slots, and a tight point race.Everyone knows that Seminole has a great river in the Flint. It is home to some of the best Shoal Bass fishing in the world.

Practice: I, of course, take the Tracker here. It is the main reason that I bought this boat. The fishing was pretty good each day of practice. I caught a fish over four pounds each day. Two of these were Shoal Bass, one was close to five pounds (the biggest one I’ve ever caught).

Day 1: The river had came down over a foot and cleared up from the last day of practice. It was a lot tougher over all for me. I caught some keepers on a senko and a fluke. Near the end of the day, I made a run back up river to a good stretch. The first shoal I came to I caught a three pound Shoalie on topwater. It was a decent day and I weighed in almost 10 pounds and was in the 29th, barely inside the cut.

Day 2: It was even clearer today! It was a lot tougher day. I fished hard all day and was able to catch some fish on a shaky head. I did have one really good fish to the boat that came off. It would have made a huge difference in my finish. I weighed in a small limit at 5-6. This ended up 34th.

This did keep me high enough to finish 6th place in the points. This qualified me for the Elite’s.
